A great stir around your health.
“It is terrible. An unknown disease started to spread in the harshest way ever seen or heard of. Some lost all their strength and were not able to stand upright anymore. Then their legs started to swell. Their muscles shrank and became black like coal. Others developed blotches on their skin with bloody spots of purple color. Then it rose to their ankles, calves, shoulders, arms, and neck. Their mouths started to smell. Their gum became rotten and fell off to their dental roots; they lost almost all their teeth. In the end, even the blood vessels burst and most of them died.”
This description, which seems to come from a horror movie, originates from the logbook of sailor Jacques Cartier. In 1542 he used those words to describe the widespread deaths on the ships. In fact, this disease raged on the ships for 300 years and took the lives of more than 2 million sailors in a brutal way. Today, this disease is well-known. Its name: Scurvy! Scurvy is derived from the Latin word “scorbutus” and means “oral thrush”.
But what was the reason for the repeated outbreaks of scurvy and the horrible consequences on high seas? And why mostly there and not ashore? Only 1753 an answer was found. A clever doctor in the British navy, Dr James Lind, had a suspicion and had all aliments on the ships examined. They mainly consisted of hardtack, salt meat, and halibut. Dr Lind recognized that these aliments contain virtually no vitamin C. He immediately had huge numbers of barrels with sauerkraut and crates of lemons being loaded into the bulky ships' bellies. Sauerkraut and lemons contain ample vitamin C and behold, due to the supply with this single vitamin, the No. 1 cause of death of former times was eliminated immediately. No sailor had to die of scurvy anymore.
Incredible, isn’t it?! An already so small, inconspicuous vitamin, which is visible only in the electron microscope, decides about life and death.
Hence, it is worthwhile to take a closer look at this micro-nutrient. Because although vitamin C is probably the most famous vitamin at all, most people still associate it “only” with helping the immune system, in particular in the cold winter months. Therefore, it is mainly taken in this time, for example, to protect from a cold. This is fine—but vitamin C can do more. A lot more.
For example, this vitamin plays, besides others, a key role in the endogenous generation of collagen. Collagen is famous as an important factor for a smooth skin. But collagen cannot be found only in the skin—this protein supports the connective tissue in the whole human body. And the connective tissue keeps organs, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and much more within the body. It is literally everywhere. Even the dura mater consists of connective tissue and encloses the whole brain. Blood vessels are also held together by connective tissue. And this finally was the sailors' doom.
Three to four months on high seas, without vitamin C, massively disturbed the endogenous collagen generation. Consequently, the connective tissue of the sailors became weaker and weaker. The gum eroded, the teeth became loose, the nose bled, the joints ached, and the blood vessels became brittle—until the blood vessels burst. This inevitably led to most sailors bled to death internally.
You see, vitamin C is much more than the well-known “anti-cold” vitamin. This micro-nutrient is, for example, part of approximately 15,000 metabolism processes. Amongst other factors, vitamin C plays an important role for the energy metabolism and is a great support during weight reduction. It furthermore contributes to the endogenous production of carnitine. The body requires this substance to burn excess fat more easily.
Furthermore, vitamin C reduces fatigue. It protects our 100 trillion body cells from dangerous free radicals (unstable free oxygen molecules). It also plays an important role in normalizing the function of our nervous system and the psyche. Furthermore, vitamin C is indispensable for the whole cardiovascular system. In case of allergic reactions, it can significantly reduce the release of histamine, and bleeding gums and periodontitis are a thing of the past, if there is sufficient vitamin C in the blood.
Beyond that, this all-rounder helps to increase the resorption of ferric in the blood by a factor of five. It stimulates the liver’s enzymatic system and thereby supports the endogenous detoxification. And even a healthy level of cholesterol is supported by vitamin C. The list of beneficial effects of this micro-nutrient is merely infinite and listing all of them would be out of scope. It is a fact, however, that vitamin C has its prominent reputation in the health sector not for nothing. Therefore, it is incredibly important to take this all-rounder year-round. For an optimum effect, the correct dosage is of vital importance.
The DGE (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung, German nutritional society) recommends a daily intake of 110 mg vitamin C for adults. This is advisable to prevent severe deficiency diseases, like scurvy. But any cold virus will laugh at you if you only stick to the DGE's daily recommended dose. Generally, the prevention of severe deficiency diseases has nothing to do with an optimum health care. The DGE's recommendation, which is, by the way, constructed(!) and not calculated, is even enough to prevent typical vitamin deficiency diseases, which occur after a short time—but not the major civilization diseases, which occur after years of deficiency only. Nowadays, for example, many researchers associate Europe's No. 1 cause of death, heart attack, with a long-lasting lack of vitamin C. And this definition of lack takes a much higher daily need as basis than the DGE concedes.
Generally, the DGE's intake recommendations are rather odd. They were invented in the 1950s and adapted every now and then. But adapted to what? Nobody knows. The fact of matter is, that the DGE's intake recommendations do not take into account, if you are young or old, male or female, if you perform physical or intellectual work, if you are healthy or ill, corpulent or thin. If you smoke or take medication etc. All no matter. For DGE, everybody is the same. The whole issue is very questionable.
It is also questionable, that the daily intake recommendation for nutrients differs in different countries up to the factor of 20! That begs the question, why for example a Dutchman needs more vitamin C than a German. All nonsense.
You better forget the intake recommendations, which are not even the same in different countries. Do it like the animals. Most of them generate their own vitamin C. Unfortunately, we humans are not able to do this. But we can learn from the animals and from nature. Take the rat for example. It generates approximately 5 GRAMS of vitamin C daily. This little animal—this is a dose of 5000 mg daily! In case of stress, the rat produces up to 100 GRAMS—100,000 mg!
Orthomolecular medical practitioners (working with highly dosed vital substances to support human health) recommend a daily intake of 3000 to 5000 mg of vitamin C for adults. But satisfying this demand with “normal” vitamin C products, which are available in health food shops or pharmacies, could quickly lead to gastrointestinal problems. The reason: Most common vitamin C products contain pure ascorbic acid (the chemical description of vitamin C), which has an acidic pH value. Many people will react to this treatment, if highly dosed, with an overacidified stomach and various discomforts.
To follow the orthomolecular intake recommendation (3000 to 5000 mg daily) and use the full potential of the all-rounder vitamin C, the ascorbic acid must be provided in a so-called buffered (neutralized) variant. Only this prevents stomach and gastrointestinal problems.
Thanks to modern technology, this is possible nowadays, by binding the ascorbic acid to a mineral. And minerals, as we all know, are alkaline! This neutralizes the acid. Of all available minerals, calcium has proven as most efficient in this regard. Even small amounts of calcium suffice for an excellent buffering effect. And this is exactly what we did with Better C®. We bound our highly dosed vitamin C to calcium. This compound, called calcium ascorbate, provides the acidic vitamin C in a pH-neutral variant, which increases tolerability significantly. Even high doses in the range of grams can be taken without problems, without irritating the gastric mucosa, and without causing diarrhea. Furthermore, the compound calcium ascorbate increases bioavailability. Thus, the valuable vitamin is resorbed more easily by the body!
Apropos bioavailability: The most important issue around nutritional supplements. What use is the best formula if it cannot be metabolized completely? Therefore, we additionally combined our vitamin C with the natural vitamin C metabolite L-threonate. These accompanying substances of vitamin C are endogenous and therefore familiar to the organism. Research hast shown, that L-threonate additionally increases the resorption capacity for vitamin C extremely. It is actually resorbed to the blood twice as quickly and stays bioavailable in the body for twice the time, compared to normal vitamin C. Considering the plethora of tasks, which are accomplished by vitamin C, this is an extremely important aspect.
Additionally, we covered our Better C® with natural citrus bioflavonoids (natural substances, which can be found primarily in the peel of citrus fruit). This results in valuable synergetic effects, which multiply the effect of Better C®.
Maybe this kind of vitamin C complex seems familiar to you. The legendary Ester C® also contains this combination. Also, in this case, vitamin C is bound to calcium and the bioavailability is increased significantly with L-threonate and bioflavonoids. For a long time, this made Ester C® the vitamin C of the third generation with a unique formula. But this has stopped now. Because Better C® is even better. Using a revolutionary production technique, which further increases the vitamin C’s bioavailability.
While Ester C® and other comparable vitamin C products are combined with their accompanying substances like calcium, bioflavonoids, and L-threonate as a whole, we cover EVERY SINGLE vitamin C particle. This is revolutionary! Once more: Normally, the complete pellet, which contains the vitamin C, is covered with the accompanying substances at the end of the production process. This increases the bioavailability of the important vitamin. But we go a step further with Better C® and first cover EVERY SINGLE vitamin C particle with the respective accompanying substances and then produce the pellets. This technique increases the vitamin C’s bioavailability again.
This is what we make a great stir about. Our vitamin C particles are brought to weightlessness in a so-called fluidized bed plant. This means, our vitamin C molecules are stirred around in a closed container by an air stream, which enters the container from below, and brought to fly this way. Like astronauts in space, our particles hover freely in the container and are accessible from all sides. The accompanying substances are now sprayed evenly to each single particle from a nozzle. In a layered process, calcium is applied first, followed by L-threonate, and finally the citrus bioflavonoids. The film forming in multiple layers caters for a very homogenous and stable cover around each particle. This very elaborate process allows for an unparalleled bioavailability of the vitamin, which can make the difference between life and death.
Finally, the individual particles are finished with one of the most fascinating micro-nutrients from the plant life: With curcumin from the tropical superfood turmeric. Both micro-nutrients, vitamin C and curcumin, work synergistically and massively support our immune system. Furthermore, turmeric is said to work anti-viral and anti-inflammatory.
Only then, the highly effective particle complexes are processed to pellets. The result is a unique formula, which is considered a remarkable breakthrough. Without exaggeration, you can say that Better C® is the most innovative new generation of vitamin C worldwide. Its bioavailability is unparalleled and enables incredible effects, which can hardly be described verbally. Therefore, you should try it out on your own.
Advice: The recommended daily intake must not be exceeded. Dietary supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy way of living. Store out of the reach of children.
